2021 LMBL Season Finals - Wrap Up
Submitted By LMBL Registrar on Monday, September 13, 2021
After what seemed like an eternity between seasons, the LMBL was able to wrap up an abbreviated but successful season on Sunday Sept 12th with 8 games being played on the final Sunday of LMBL action for 2021.

On the consolation side of things, Ralph Hamlyn park hosted the beer-league playoffs.  Each winner walked away with a 30 pack of Miller Lite to drown their sorrows and ponder thoughts of what 'could have been'.  I'm sure there were a few tailgate discussions on plans for improvement in 2022 after the final games, with lots of time to heal pulled hamstrings and sore shoulders heading into the fall.

Congrats to the Red Sox, Mets, Marlins, and Brewers to taking home the consolation titles (and a case of beer!)

In the Championship bracket played at Dan Pulham, action kicked off with the D Final.  It was predicted to be a one-sided affair, and proved to be just that with the Athletics showing no mercy on the upstart expansion Dodgers.  One bright note for the Dodgers was a 4-4 day at the plate by team manager Jeff Reid, along with a non-scorekeeper assisted first hit of the season for league newcomer Cory Asselin.  I sense a re-registration coming next season....welcome back Cory! ;-)  Congratulations to the Athletics for 1) not forfeiting again, and 2) becoming the first ever D Champions of the LMBL.  On a side note - the A's are the team most looking forward to 17 player rosters again!

The C Final was just as uneventful as the first game of the day.  The Werewolves racked up 21 hits on the day and cruised to an easy win over the Blue Jays.  Appreciative there was not a C Trophy awarded, the Werewolves graciously accepted their prize T-Shirts – although there weren’t many in size medium given out (maybe just one ShMedium?!).  I guess there comes a time when we all require a little more fabric in our apparel…and that time is now for the Werewolves! Congrats on the win boys!

Next up was the marque match-up with the highly touted Aquarium Services Sharks taking on the Cubs in the A Final.  This was another game that was never in doubt, and the Sharks cruised to an easy win to take home the A Final Trophy, along with the Harvey Brown Award as the leagues regular season champions (going undefeated at 8-0-1).  The league awarded retro 2020 edition Championship Hats to the winners.  Great job guys!

And the final match-up was in the B final with the Rays taking on the Tigers.  It was an abbreviated rain-shortened game that had very little in the way of drama.  The Rays came to play on this day, putting up 13 hits and 13 runs as they shut out the Tigers to claim their second B title.  Great work on the W Rays!

Thanks to all players, fans, and family for your support and compliance with respect to playing safety protocols placed upon us for 2021.  We look forward to 2022 with the anticipation things may become a little more ‘normal’, with rosters returning to regular size (15+), and our season being able to begin in May once again.

Registration will open for 2022 later in the fall – with an email reminder being send to all former and returning players to notify them.  If you are new or interested in joining our league, feel free to send an email to [email protected] to be added to our mailing list.  Until then, stay safe, stay vigilant, and rest up those post-season injuries!
